11-Year-Old Danny Lawlor Becomes Our Youngest Author & Illustrator

Listowel has fostered many a stellar wordsmith and hosted many a spectacular literary event, but last November, it achieved a new milestone, in that the author launching his book was eleven-year-old Danny Lawlor. Danny is a fifth-class student at Coolard National School, and The Night of the Full Moon exhibits both his literary and artistic skills.

In The Night of the Full Moon, Danny narrates the adventure of three friends, David, Liam, and James, who, out trick-or-treating, find themselves surrounded by zombies. The three boys take it upon themselves to save the world, and thus begins a perilous adventure that includes battles with mummies, building a spaceship and a journey to the moon.

All the JM Agency team were particularly proud to be involved in such a unique project, and to help foster the creativity and literary talent of such a young author. We would like to thank artist Louise Lynch for doing so much to foster Danny’s creativity, mom Marguerite and dad Dermot for supporting and encouraging Danny, and to the beautiful Kerry Writers Museum for being such wonderful hosts. We would also like to thank Cara, Louise and all the Writers’ Museum team for being so complimentary when it came to our efforts in editing, designing and managing the publication of The Night of the Full Moon, with Louise praising the ‘fantastic local publishing company’ in her speech. We will take that Louise, and it was our pleasure! We would, finally, like to warmly thank local bookseller Brenda Woulfe, of Woulfe’s Bookstore, for directing Danny and his mom Marguerite our way.

The young author wasn’t wanting for compliments and praise at the event, either. Joe Murphy, former Director of St John’s Theatre, who formally launched the book, complimented Danny for his colorful and dazzling illustrations. Local authors Matt Mooney, author of The Singing Woods, and Gabriel Fitzmaurice, author of Poems of Faith and Doubt and The Village Sings, were also in attendance, to, in the words of Gabriel Fitzmaurice, meet the ‘next generation of literary talent’. Danny also received a celebrity endorsement in the form of a video from Niall Breslin (‘Bressie’), author and lead singer of the Blizzards, who met the young author at his own event in Listowel.

Onwards and upwards Danny!
