The Enneagram personality model is one of the world’s oldest systems for understanding human personality, but its applications are just as relevant to the modern world, as it was to the world of ancient Greece. This is the thesis of an acclaimed new book by Enneagram expert and trainer Martin Quigley. Martin’s in-depth study is as much characterised by the clear and accessible language, as it by the extensive research undertaken.
“If you’re new to the Enneagram, this book is perfect for you. If you are already Enneagram savvy, you’ll want to read this book because it is that good,” are the words of Ginger Lapid-Bogda, PhD, founder of the influential Enneagram in Business.
“As a long time Enneagram teacher myself I highly recommend this book for new and continuing students and practitioners,” writes Peter O’Hanrahan, an experienced Enneagram lecturer and core faculty member at the Narrative Enneagram school.
As Martin’s witty title implies, there is much more to the Enneagram than a numerical list of inflexible personality ‘types’. The aim of the psychology is to discover more about your underline motivations and ambitions, as much as your manifest personality. The aim is also to foster self-awareness as a means towards personal transformation, as against passively accepting an underlying personality ‘type’.
From the blurb: ‘More than a number has all the information the reader needs to understand both themselves and others. There are also a number of applications, both personal and work-related, where the reader can examine features of themselves. The book is both a source of information and a workbook to guide the reader through the model. It is also a reference book for students and teachers working with the Enneagram. Coaches, therapists, counsellors and other professionals who work with people will find this book an invaluable resource and support.’
More than a number is a book that Martin Quigley is uniquely qualified to write. From Martin’s bio: ‘A graduate in Psychology and Philosophy from University College Dublin, Martin has studied and worked with the Enneagram delivering coaching and training to individuals, couples, and groups for nearly thirty years. He is certified by the Narrative Enneagram and is an Accredited Professional by the International Enneagram Association. As a senior member of the Enneagram in Business Network, he applies the Enneagram in his coaching, leadership, and team development trainings.
Martin is a former lead trainer with Enneagram Training UK, delivering professional Enneagram training in Ireland & the UK. In this role, he supervised trainee Enneagram teachers, both in Ireland, the UK and internationally. He is a guest facilitator with the South African Enneagram Professional training programme. Martin, an enthusiastic golfer and Leinster and Ireland Rugby supporter, lives in Dublin with his wife Róisín.’
Martin availed of JM Agency’s Book Publishing Package, which included frequent consultations with Jeremy, benefiting from his experience and expertise, in-depth copy-editing and developmental editing from Sarah, and design magic from Parvathi. Sarah and Jeremy worked with Martin and his colleague Heather Brown on early drafts of More than a number, mentoring the author through several drafts before arriving at the finished manuscript. Martin also worked closely with Jeremy and Parvathi at the design stage, working together to create a design concept that captured the essence of More than a number. The JM Agency team is also creating a website for Martin, which will be an invaluable promotional vehicle for him.
Martin Quigley’s compelling debut book, an exploration of Enneagram psychology and philosophy, from the pen of a seasoned expert, will be launched on Thursday, 20th of June.
