JM Agency author Mr Vincent Henry was beaming with pride when his debut book One Last Bend – a personal history of Peter Henry’s travelling shop was launched with aplomb, at the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore. One Last Bend- was officially launched by former Taoiseach, Mr Brian Cowen, former Prime Minister of Ireland, who wrote ‘Vincent’s recollections accompanying his father in their travelling shop reminds us of the life and times of rural Ireland in a bygone age’.

Vincent’s evocative memoir is an intimate, funny and at times wry account of his family’s travelling shop, in a time when such mobile enterprises were staples of Irish rural life. Vincent’s recollections of accompanying his father in the van is both fascinating travelogue, populated by the characters they encounter along the way, as well as a metaphor for a time that is no longer with us.
