JM Agency authors were hitting the airwaves and newsprint lately. Vincent Henry was interviewed by legendary broadcaster Joe Duffy, on the subject of travelling shops, and the role they played in the fabric of rural Ireland. Presenting Joe with a copy of the JM Agency-designed and edited book, the broadcaster commented on the book’s ‘lovely’ production.
Vincent elaborated on his family enterprise in detail, including how modest it was in comparison to other such businesses, but how vital it was for the surrounding hinterlands, how his father brought more than essential supplies to isolated communities; they brought news, companionship and gossip; they were an integral part of rural life. You can listen to Vincent’s full interview with Joe Duffy Here.
Media interest in One Last Bend didn’t end there. A chapter of the book recently appeared in the Sunday Independent, Ireland’s biggest selling Sunday newspaper (see Here) as well as this personal and thoughtful piece by award-winning journalist Liam Collins, which appeared in the same publication.
We also discovered recently that legendary Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell was a fan of One Last Bend. Writing in the Sunday World newspaper, Daniel wrote, ‘I’ m reminded of that time (my upbringing in Kincasslagh ed. ) with the publication of a very entertaining book called One Last Bend… It will bring back so many memories of those simple times in Ireland. ‘ Nobody could have phrased it better Daniel, and we are so proud that you enjoyed a book designed, edited and published by our team! So many readers have also remarked on the book’s warmth and truthful nostalgia.
Listowel journalist and historian Tom Dillon also did a piece on JM Agency author Joe Lane and his epic historical novel Red, White and Green for the Kerry’s Eye newspaper. Joe reflected on the role Listowel and North Kerry played in inspiring him to write the book, as well as delving into the factual historical events he drew from in penning the epic.
To ‘cap it off’, author Jim Hegarty, author of ‘The Hegartys of the Laurels‘, was also interviewed by Joe Duffy, as part of his show on self-published books and authors. Jim and Joe discussed the book’s background and themes in detail, including the crucial role Jim’s aunts played in the Cork branch of Cumman na mBan, and how their homestead was transformed into a centre of subversive intelligence gathering. Jim paid tribute to the role Jeremy played, and our printing partners Lettertec Ireland Ltd, in helping him bring the book to life.
