Movie Time for ‘The Hegartys of the Laurels’!

JM Aegncy Author Jim Hegarty at the Screening of ‘The Hegartys of the Laurels’.

It’s not every day a book you worked on gets adapted for the screen, so all the JM Agency team were delighted that the film adaptation of the ‘The Hegartys of the Laurels’ was screened successfully, and in the grand setting of Cork City Hall, last Saturday. Well done to all the team at Lettertec for producing not only a wonderful book, but this wonderful brochure to promote the film.

All the JM Agency team would like to thank Jim Hegarty for entrusting us with the editing of what was such a personal book for him, and the continued encouragement and support for Jeremy.

The ‘Hegartys of the Laurels’ is a candid, personal history of one family’s enormous contribution to Ireland’s independence struggle. It also includes insights into little-known aspects of the conflict, including Cumann na mBan’s integral role in intelligence gathering.

The film adaptation focuses on the roles played by Jim Hegarty’s two aunts, Mamie Forde (nee Hegarty) and Nan Fennell (nee Hegarty), who undertook espionage activity during both the War of Independence and the subsequent Irish Civil War, turning the family’s Cork city market garden into a hub of clandestine activity. The film puts women back into the centre of the story of Ireland’s independence.

Kudos to Cork City Council for hosting such a dazzling event and reception. And special thanks to our print partners at Lettertec Ireland Ltd, for entrusting Jeremy and the team with the editing of Jim’s manuscript; magical book production from Lettertec, as always.
