It was an absolute pleasure to work closely with Fr Pat Ahern, founding director of the preeminent Siamsa Tire, Tralee, recently. We collaborated on editing/appraisal of a very interesting philosophical text (by a very distinguished philosopher and sociologist, who is sadly deceased).
Fr Pat’s achievements are incredible. Born in Moyvane, Kerry in 1932, he founded the Siamsóirí na Ríochta (entertainers of Kerry) in 1965, which would eventually evolve into the Siamsa Tire. Pat’s vision for the Siamsa was a home to nurture original cultural and artistic works and creations – which he achieved, in stunning fashion. He is also a very distinguished composer, musician, lecturer, and, as I can testify from having many conversations with him, a very interesting theologian and conversationalist. I don’t think we celebrate Fr Pat enough in Kerry. Exceptional man!!
